Even before Monday's forecast for five to eight inches of snow between Monday night and Tuesday morning, Loyola Maryland and Towson had reached an unusual agreement to play their annual meeting Wednesday at 12 p.m.
Initially, the No. 16 Tigers had listed the game at Johnny Unitas Stadium as a Tuesday night game. But the No. 8 Greyhounds, who outlasted No. 18 Penn State, 8-6, on Saturday, asked for an additional day to prepare for the game.
"That was really the big stickler for me," Loyola coach Charley Toomey said. "Number one, it's a real physical game, and you've got to give the kids one day to kind of get their legs back. And then you'd like to have at least a day-and-a-half to prepare, and they've been sitting there since their Hopkins win [last Tuesday] preparing for Loyola. So I felt like from a competitive standpoint, it was the right thing to do, to play this game with two days of preparation versus one."
Moving the game to Wednesday, however, conflicted with the Towson men's basketball game against Hofstra at SECU Arena at 7 p.m. To prevent a traffic jam caused by fans of both games, the lacrosse game was scheduled for 12 p.m.
"We did it mainly because of the home hoops game and the media people to do the games and make both of them work," Nadelen said. "We practice 10 [a.m.] to 12 [p.m.] pretty much every day. So I hope it's not too much of an issue.
"Coach Toomey and Loyola are in a similar situation with their practice times. So it worked out well for both sides. We might not get a ton of people at the game, but I know a lot of people will be tuning in through our website."
