Recruiting notes: Attackman-midfielder Schimoler commits orally to UMBC

South River junior attackman-midfielder Gunnar Schimoler has orally committed to UMBC.

The son of the late John Schimoler, who played on Syracuse's 1983 national championship team, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound recruit started as a sophomore for the Seahawks, helping them to the Class 4A-3A state championship.

He is a nephew of the late Paul Schimoler, who was a four-time All-Ivy League and All-America goalie at Cornell and regarded as one of the all-time greats at the position.

Playing club for Soco and T2, Gunnar Schimoler attended MVP Delaware, Under Armour Shootout, UPLax, Cottle Invitational and Champ Camp. He also considered Navy and Richmond.

Other junior oral commitments

Midfielder Brian Prigmore of Hockinson High in Brush Prairie, Wash., has committed to Navy. A member of the Seattle Starz and West Coast Starz, he helped lead them to the NSCLA finals this summer, also attending Adrenaline Challenge and Terrapin Classic. Prigmore also considered Brown.

Midfielder-faceoff specialist Charlie Taylor of Calverton School in Huntingtown has committed to High Point. A second-team All-Metro Independent Lacrosse League pick as a sophomore faceoff specialist, he plays club for Southern Maryland Select, making the All-Star team at King of the Hill and Baltimore Summer Kickoff. Taylor also made the Maryland Top 22 game against the WAVE team from Virginia and D.C.

St. Paul's attackman Dawes Milchling has committed to Vermont. A member of Maryland Lacrosse Club and MadLax/Rock, he attended Nike Blue Chip, Under Armour Shootout and National High School Lacrosse Showcase. He also considered Air Force and Dartmouth.

Luthy joins Sacred Heart roster

Sacred Heart announced that defenseman Cole Luthy (Loyola High) will join the team for the 2014 season. The 6-1, 220-pound Luthy played four seasons of lacrosse for the Dons, helping the team win the MIAA state championship in 2013.
