Recruiting notes: 2 more freshmen make oral commitments

It didn't take long for the first men's lacrosse oral commitment from the class of 2017 to be joined by a pair of others, including a second one for North Carolina.

Defenseman Joe Carrington of San Ramon Valley High in Danville, Calif., committed to the Tar Heels, joining Ara Atayan of Bronxville (N.Y.) High, whose commitment was first reported over the weekend. Playing up in the class of 2016 for Pete Worstell's 3D Select team, Carrington was an All-Star two years at a row at FLG in 3D and was a member of the 3D National Championship team.

Midfielder John Fox of Brunswick School in Greenwich, Conn., has committed to Virginia. Fox, a high school sophomore, will take a postgraduate year before joining the Cavaliers. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound recruit participated in Delaware MVP (All-Star), Prep School Showcase, Moonlight Showcase, Baltimore Summer Kickoff, CrabFeast, Best of the Best, Philly Invitational Team Showcase (all-star), Terrapin Shootout, Maverik Showtime and National Invite 175 (summer and fall). He also plays outside linebacker for the football team.

Sophomore oral commitments


Boys' Latin goalie Jack Pezzulla has committed to North Carolina. Pezzulla plays for Breakers Lacrosse Club 2016 team, participating in King of the Hill, Brine Summer Sizzle, UNC Freshman and Sophomore Select camp, Jake Reed's Nike Blue Chip, Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Tryouts, Nike's "The Ride," Baltimore Summer Kickoff and Crab Feast. He also considered Maryland, Duke and Ohio State.

Mount Saint Joseph midfielder Bryan Costabile has committed to Notre Dame. The 6-foot, 175-pounder scored 12 goals and five assists as a freshman on varsity for Mount St. Joseph's first midfield line. This summer he made Baltimore's Under Armour All-America Underclass team and the Maryland Freestate Top 22 team, and was named an All-Star at the Baltimore Summer Kickoff; he also participated in Under Armour Shootout and FLG in 3D with Looney's Lacrosse Club. Costabile also considered Ohio State, Yale, Penn and Delaware.

Midfielder Casey Kimmel of Massapequa (N.Y.) High committed to Towson in August. Kimmel scored four goals in the Under Armour Uncommitted Game. Playing for Team 91 Orange, he was an All-Star at the Long Island Classic and Top 205, also attending Maverik Showtime and Long Island Showcase, with plans to attend the Philly Showcase this fall. Kimmel is a three-sport varsity athlete in football, wrestling and lacrosse. He also considered Hofstra and Maryland.

Junior oral commitments

Midfielder P.J. Brown of Cazenovia (N.Y.) High has committed to Loyola Maryland. Scoring 22 goals and 20 assists for the New York Class C champions this year, he plays for United Lacrosse, attending Maverik Showtime and Syracuse Shootout. Brown also considered Syracuse.

Midfielder Matt Brisolari of DeMatha in Hyattsville has committed to Providence. A member of Blackwolf, he attended Under Armour Shootout, Terrapin Classic, Baltimore Summer Kickoff, UPLax and the Freestate Games. He also considered Yale, Towson, Lafayette and Army.
