SUNY Cortland men's lacrosse player Jonathon T. Foltz has been charged with second-degree gang assault in an early-morning attack during Memorial Day weekend in Auburn, N.Y., according to the Auburn Citizen.
Police said Foltz, 21, who is a rising senior defenseman and is listed on the Red Dragons roster as J.T. Foltz, assaulted Shane M. Maneri, 42, of Atlanta at about 2:45 a.m. May 25 outside a pizzeria.
Maneri, originally from Auburn, suffered a broken right leg, along with bruises across his face and neck, the Auburn Citizen reported. He has since been recovering from trauma surgery.
Foltz is one of Cortland's top defenders -- he played in 19 games last season, starting four, and led the team with 19 caused turnovers. He also had eight penalties, the most on the team. The Red Dragons advanced to the Division III semifinals before losing to eventual runner-up Rochester Institute of Technology.
