Knee injury in offseason doesn't slow Hopkins' Greeley

The large brace on John Greeley's left knee was about the only noticeable indicator of what the Johns Hopkins junior midfielder has endured since the offseason.

Greeley suffered a serious knee injury that raised concerns that he might have been forced to miss the upcoming 2012 campaign. Instead, there was Greeley taking his customary spot on the first line with junior John Ranagan and Rob Guida in the No. 4 Blue Jays' 12-6 rout of Towson on Friday evening.

Greeley showed little rust or trepidation when testing Tigers defenders.

"The coaches got me some runs in the first couple scrimmages, and I think that was a really big confidence builder for me," he said of the stability and strength of his knee. "… It's been good so far."

Greeley and Ranagan each posted an assist Friday, but failed to score. Still, the cohesion between the pair was evident.

"John and I, we've practiced, we've developed chemistry from last year," Greeley said. "We know what our strengths are, and we know how to work with each other. So when we're out there, we just kind of play with it. I know he's going to try to go to the left, and he knows I'm going to try to go to the right. We just kind of play off of each other, and it usually works out."
