Johnson, who is in his fourth season as skipper of the Orioles’ top farm club, has the Tides leading the league’s South Division by three games with a record of 75-61. The Tides haven’t been to the postseason since 2005.
It’s the second Manager of the Year Award in Johnson’s career; he captured the honor in the Double-A Texas League in 1995.
The IL also announced its postseason All-Star team and two Tides were honored: outfielder Dariel Alvarez and closer Oliver Drake.
Alvarez, 26, hit .275 with 16 homers for the Tides before his call-up to the Orioles on Friday.
Drake, 28, posted a 0.82 ERA in 42 games for the Tides, striking out 66 batters in 44 innings and converting all 23 of his save opportunities. He is expected to officially be added to the Orioles roster today. He pitched briefly with the team earlier this season.
