In Double-A Bowie giveaway, Manny Machado bobblehead is more man than Minion

Fair warning: This is a critique of a minor league bobblehead. Still with me? OK, fine, let's begin.

The first image is of the Minions, stars of the popular "Despicable Me" movie franchise. The second is of Manny Machado, star of the first-place Orioles.

Chances are, most people you know like both. The Minions-starring film series has grossed over $2.6 billion; Machado threw down with the Kansas City Royals' Yordano Ventura. So when Double-A Bowie commissioned a Machado-Minions bobblehead, it felt like a market correction. Of course there would be a Machado-Minions bobblehead. It was like combining a computer with a phone that also wore overalls and spoke an inscrutable language.

On Tuesday, the Baysox unveiled their ~~Frankenstein's monster~~ bobblehead, to be given away Aug. 7 to the first 1,000 fans 13 and older.

I'm not angry; I'm just disappointed. So much of this is great: the lifelike face, the jutting ears, the black henchman's glove the Minions wear swapped for a black baseball glove.

But part of the Minions' appeal is that they look like giant yellow Tic Tacs. An anthropomorphized Machado-Minion would make for a better baseball player, sure, but it also looks like Machado decided to dress up for an early Halloween party. If a Minion saw Machado in the Minionverse, they'd be like, "Why does he have a neck?" (if they even know what necks are).

Anyway, there should be more pop-culture homages in bobbleheads: Michael Phelps and a water-based Pokemon. Mark Trumbo and a "Game of Thrones" sword-swinger. Buck Showalter and Han Solo. I could go on.
