Virginia coach Dom Starsia doesn't want Albany's Lyle Thompson or Duke's Myles Jones to succeed against his team this season, but he loves that they are succeeding in the sport.
He believes it's good for lacrosse to have a Native American (Thompson) and an African American (Jones) as faces of the game.
Jones plays midfielder for the Blue Devils, and Thompson is a Great Danes attackman. They are two of the top scorers in college lacrosse.
"The growth of our game in minority communities remains painfully slow, but it has been consistent," Starsia said. "Having Myles Jones [and Lyle Thompson] as the face of our game over these next few years is an important development, one that may prove to be a spur in the growth of the game among under-represented communities. … Let's hope."
