Denver attackman Gordie Koerber (Gilman) and Hobart defenseman Luke Miller, two highly regarded freshmen starters for their respective Eastern College Athletic Conference programs, have decided to transfer to Ohio State.
Multiple sources close to the program confirmed that both players have received their releases and have made their decisions but are still waiting on acceptance to the university.
Despite being hampered by injury early in the spring, Koerber registered 20 goals and four assists to finish fifth in scoring on Bill Tierney's Pioneers. The 2012 Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic Most Valuable Player played in 15 games as a freshman, starting 11.
Koerber will join Gilman classmate Robby Haus, a starting defenseman, on Nick Myers' roster. Koerber's transfer gives the Buckeyes a big left-handed finisher at attack, something they will need with the program's all-time leading scorer, Logan Schuss, having finished his career this spring. Koerber will join fellow southpaws Turner Evans and Jesse King on a potent Ohio State offense that averaged 11.2 goals per game in 2012.
A steady close defenseman out of Gonzaga (D.C.), Miller started 11 games of 12 games played in his freshman year at Hobart. He recorded eight ground balls and six caused turnovers.
Both players were named to the ECAC All-Rookie team.
