Frigid weather forecast has affected five men's lacrosse games Saturday

Frigid temps, gusts have prompted postponement of Saturday's Johns Hopkins-UMBC men's lacrosse game.

A projected forecast of severe cold accompanied by blustery winds has forced UMBC to postpone Saturday’s season opener at 1 p.m. against No. 6 Johns Hopkins (1-0). The game has been moved to Wednesday, March 30 at 7 p.m. at UMBC Stadium in Catonsville.

That postponement also meant another change in the Retrievers’ schedule. A home contest against Mount St. Mary’s on Tuesday, March 29 at 7 p.m. has shifted to Tuesday, April 12 at the same time.

Finally, UMBC’s road game against No. 12 Ohio State (1-0) on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 12 p.m. has been rescheduled for Friday, Feb. 26 at 5 p.m.

On Tuesday, Salisbury – which is ranked No. 5 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association’s Division III preseason poll – announced that Saturday’s home opener at 1 p.m. against No. 2 Lynchburg was moved to Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 3:30 p.m.

Multiple forecasts are calling for a high on Saturday in the 20s with gusts dropping wind chill temperature to single digits.

UPDATE #1: Mount St. Mary’s season opener at Delaware (0-1) on Saturday at 1 p.m. will be played on Friday at 12 p.m.

UPDATE #2: No. 17 Towson’s season opener against Mercer at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson has been moved from Saturday at 12 p.m. to Friday at 6 p.m.

UPDATE #3: No. 4 Maryland’s season opener against No. 18 Navy (1-1) at Maryland Stadium in College Park has been rescheduled from Saturday at 1 p.m. to Tuesday, April 19 at 7 p.m.
