Former Dunbar standout outside linebacker Horace Miller has signed with the Carolina Panthers' practice squad.
Miller was previously with the Seattle Seahawks before being waived-injured and then reaching an injury settlement when he sprained the medial collateral ligament in his knee.
Healthy now, Miller signed with the Panthers after a workout Monday.
"I had plenty of teams call during my injury, but [the Panthers] took the liberty to call my agent twice and showed the most interest," Miller told The Baltimore Sun. "They told me they like my speed and want me to learn and grow and during practice to showcase my speed for a special teams spot."
Miller, who had three tackles in the preseason for the Seahawks, was signed by the Super Bowl champions during the spring after a successful rookie minicamp tryout.
Miller was an all-state pass rusher at Dunbar where he won a state championship with the Poets. He went undrafted out of Texas-El Paso.
Miller, who participated in the Ravens' local prospects day and the NFL super regional combine at the Detroit Lions' Ford Field before the draft, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.44 seconds at his campus Pro Day workout. He also had a 37.5-inch vertical leap, a 10-10 broad jump and bench pressed 225 pounds 21 times with a 6.99 three-cone drill.
The 6-foot, 237-pounder was an All-Conference USA honorable-mention selection as a junior when he recorded six sacks and 7.5 tackles for losses, blocked a field goal against Oklahoma and had two sacks against Wisconsin. He had 53 tackles last season as a senior.
Miller also led the Miners with five sacks as a sophomore in 2011 after sitting out the 2010 season when he transferred from Louisville.
Miller recorded 29 sacks as a senior at Dunbar after recording 17 sacks as a junior while splitting time between defensive end and linebacker. He was named the Metro Defensive Player of the Year as a senior when he had 133 tackles and forced six fumbles before signing with Louisville.
Miller played in 11 games as a true freshman for Louisville before deciding to transfer.
