Each Wednesday, blogger Matt Vensel will highlight five statistics that really mean something for the Ravens.
2.8 — yards per rushing attempt for Ray Rice, Bernard Pierce and the Ravens through two games.
The Ravens were stubborn with the run in the second half Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, but it’s hard to argue with the results, as they ran the ball with Rice or Pierce on 27 of their 39 second-half plays to come from behind to win, 14-6. Still, the Ravens haven’t exactly established a running game so far. They have actually run the ball 57 times, which ranks 10th in the NFL, but it’s not as surprising when you consider that they have run 158 total plays and are averaging just 2.8 yards per run. Only four teams — the Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants — are averaging fewer yards per carry.
124.2 — Joe Flacco’s passer rating when the Browns blitzed.
Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton didn't blitz as often as he did in Week 1, sending just 10 blitzes at the Ravens quarterback Sunday. There was probably a reason for that. According to Pro Football Focus, Flacco completed seven of his 10 attempts when the Browns blitzed, for 73 yards and a touchdown. He had a quarterback rating of 124.2 on those plays. Through two games, Flacco has completed 15 of his 28 attempts against blitzes for 180 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He has been sacked twice when blitzed.
101 — receiving yards allowed by Lardarius Webb on Sunday.
Webb made nine tackles against the Browns, second only to middle linebacker Daryl Smith. But it's usually not a good thing when your cornerback is making so many tackles. (Just ask Cary Williams.) Webb allowed five completions on the six passes Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden threw into his coverage Sunday, according to Pro Football Focus. Those receptions added up to 101 receiving yards. It was the first time Webb had given up 100 receiving yards in a game since the final game of the 2010 regular season.
49 — quarterback pressures for the Ravens so far this season.
If the first two weeks are any indication, the pass rush will be a major strength for the Ravens this season. They have generated 49 total quarterback pressures, including 34 in the win over the Browns, according to Pro Football Focus. Rush linebacker Terrell Suggs has two sacks and leads the team with 13 pressures. Strong-side linebacker Elvis Dumervil, who has gotten fewer snaps but is often on the field in passing situations, has two sacks and 10 pressures. Those two have a lot to do with the Ravens being tied for fifth with eight sacks.
Two — receiving touchdowns in two games for Marlon Brown.
When the undrafted rookie out of Georgia found the end zone against the Browns, he became the answer to a potential trivia question: Who was the first player in Ravens history with a receiving touchdown in each of his first two NFL games? That's right. Marlon Brown. He has eight catches for 110 receiving yards through two games and ranks second to Torrey Smith among Ravens in both categories. He has done all that despite being targeted just 12 times. Maybe Flacco should throw it his way more often.
