Eight-day break concerns Towson men's lacrosse coach Shawn Nadelen

Shawn Nadelen is hoping that any momentum from Towson's season-opening 7-5 victory over then-No. 6 Johns Hopkins from last Tuesday is still present.

But the coach acknowledged that he is concerned about the Tigers -- who moved to No. 16 in the latest Cascade/Maverik media poll -- collecting rust from the eight-day layoff between that win and Wednesday's home game against No. 8 Loyola Maryland (1-1).

"Yeah, I do [worry]," Nadelen said Monday morning. "We actually had to take yesterday off because we go Wednesday-Saturday this coming week. We've got Loyola on Wednesday and then we go down to Georgetown on Saturday. You can't go seven days straight with games and practices. So we practiced Thursday, Friday and Saturday and gave them off Sunday, and then we get back to work today and tomorrow.

"Depending on the wind chill, I'm not even sure we'll get out there today just with our cold-weather policy. So I'm a little concerned about that with them having that break yesterday and getting back to work today. [The Greyhounds] had a good win on Saturday [against No. 18 Penn State]. So I'm sure they're getting back to work on us. So we'll see."

With no indoor facility, Towson could spend Monday reviewing more film and conducting walkthroughs in a classroom to prepare for a Loyola team that smashed the Tigers, 20-4, last year.

But the Greyhounds exerted themselves in Saturday's 8-6 decision over the Nittany Lions, while Towson has had an opportunity to rest and get healthier. Nadelen wasn't sure if that could be claimed as an advantage.

"You've got to hope that's the case being that we're practicing and they're playing a game and stuff," he said. "But I like to think that we're competing pretty hard in practice and that our guys put a lot into it. So we'll see what that looks like on game day.

"They've got three days in between their last game and their game with us. So we'll see. It's not like we've been taking days off. We've been out there with two hours of practice and playing hard, and that's about the normal time of a game."
