Bayhawks to open 14-game 2013 schedule on road April 27 vs. Rattlers

The defending Major League Lacrosse champion Chesapeake Bayhawks will travel to the Rochester Rattlers on April 27 to open their 14-game schedule, the team announced today.
The Bayhawks return for their fifth summer at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis with their home opener on Saturday, May 4 against the New York Lizards (previously known as the Long Island Lizards). The home opener will be highlighted by a tailgate celebration and postgame fireworks, as well as more events to be announced. The 2013 MLL regular season will consist of seven home games and seven away games.
"We are excited to get started off the great momentum from last season's championship," coach Dave Cottle said. "We have only scratched the surface of our potential, and we look forward to becoming the best team possible. There have been a lot of improvements throughout the league in the offseason with trades and draft picks. We are excited for the challenge and are ready to get started at training camp this spring."
After a leaguewide bye week during Memorial Day weekend, Chesapeake returns home on Saturday, June 1 to take on the Hamilton Nationals. With a short break, the Bayhawks travel to New York for their second bout with the Lizards on Thursday, June 6.
A 2012 championship game rematch will take place in Annapolis against the Denver Outlaws on Saturday, June 15 for their first of two contests this season. The Bayhawks and the Outlaws split the series during the regular season, but Chesapeake won, 16-6, to earn the the Steinfeld Trophy at Harvard Stadium in Cambridge, Mass.
The Bayhawks will then begin a three-week stint on the road, visiting the Charlotte Hounds on Saturday, June 22, the Hamilton Nationals on Saturday, June 29, and the the Ohio Machine on Saturday, July 6.
All teams will have a bye the second weekend in July because of the MLL All-Star Game, which will be held in Charlotte, N.C., on Saturday, July 13 at 7:30 p.m. The 2012 game, held in Boca Raton, Fla., drew a crowd of nearly 8,000.
After the All-Star Game, Chesapeake returns home for a Thursday night matchup with the Cannons on July 18. For their last road game of the regular season, the Bayhawks travel to Denver for a Saturday afternoon game on July 27.
The Bayhawks return to Annapolis for the final pair of home matches with the Rattlers and Hounds. The Bayhawks will host Rochester on Saturday, August 3 before concluding the regular season at home on Saturday, August 10 against Charlotte.
MLL Championship Weekend will be held at PPL Park in Chester, Pa., about 20 miles southwest of Philadelphia, for the first time this season. The weekend will begin with the semifinals on Saturday, August 24, followed by the final the next day. The event will also feature the MLL Fan Zone, an interactive area with fun and games for fans of all ages.
