Bayhawks announce 25-man roster heading into Saturday's opener

After three weekends of training camp, the defending Major League Lacrosse champion Chesapeake Bayhawks have announced their 25-man roster heading into Saturday night's season opener at the Rochester Rattlers.

The Bayhawks, one of the most experienced and deepest teams in MLL, return numerous veteran standouts, including 2012 Championship Weekend MVP Ben Rubeor (Loyola High). But there are also talented new faces who made a big impression on coach Dave Cottle during training camp, including Germantown native Grant Kaleikau and J.P. Dalton (Loyola University, St Mary's), both of whom were selected during December's supplemental draft.
 
"We had a lot of difficult decisions to make," Cottle said. "We respect all the guys that tried out and appreciate the time they spent as Bayhawks. I hope they get picked up by other teams. We will have even more roster moves to make as the [National Lacrosse League] teams finish their season and we will have to make more tough decisions."

The Bayhawks-Rattlers game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Bayhawks home opener is May 4 against the New York Lizards at 7 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Fireworks will be held after the game.
