Not to be outdone by their male counterparts, Brenda Frese's women laid waste to the Big Ten in their first try, going undefeated in conference play and winning the Big Ten tournament.
Playing without graduated superstar Alyssa Thomas, the Terps won with an exquisitely balanced attack led by Laurin Mincy, Lexie Brown, Brionna Jones and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough.
They earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament and advanced to their second straight Final Four before running into the Goliath of women's college basketball, the Connecticut Huskies. Maryland lost, 81-58, to the eventual national champions.
The program received a jolt when Brown, only a sophomore, transferred to Duke. But Frese quickly answered by signing the No. 1 recruiting class of the fall, and Maryland began the 2015-16 season in the top 10 again.
