Big Ten suspends Penn State men's lacrosse player for kicking Maryland player

Burke was suspended for kicking Maltz, an attackman, toward the end of the second quarter of the No. 3 Terps' 12-5 victory. Burke was assessed a one-minute penalty for unnecessary roughness.

Maltz, a Syracuse transfer who has nine goals and three assists in 10 starts, left the game and did not return. Maltz sat out his first game of the season in Maryland's 11-10 win against No. 19 Loyola Maryland on Wednesday night.

On Tuesday, Terps coach John Tillman was uncertain whether Maltz would be able to play, saying during his weekly conference call, "I don't know if you saw the hit. It was a pretty vicious hit. So we'll kind of check his status today as well.

When contacted Friday, Tillman declined to comment further.
