Shootout for Soldiers, a Baltimore-based initiative revolving around a 24-hour lacrosse game benefiting wounded members of the military, has announced a partnership with Under Armour as the charitable event's official apparel supplier.
The news comes after Shootout for Soldiers – originally started by a group of high school students attending Boys' Latin – announced that it is expanding to five cities this summer. The group will organize games in Baltimore, on June 17 and 18; in Boston, Mass., on June 26 and 27; in Columbus, Ohio, on July 10 and 11; in Long Island, N.Y., on July 16 and 17; and in Dana Point, Calif., on July 31 and Aug. 1.
"We've long admired Under Armour's commitment to our nation's veterans," Shootout for Soldiers founder and director Tyler Steinhardt said in a written statement. "This partnership will help maximize the impact we have in support of our country's heroes and we are beyond excited to work with Under Armour this year."
"Through our UA Freedom corporate initiative, Under Armour is dedicated to supporting the men and women who serve and protect our country," said Under Armour senior category director Jim Bel Bruno. "Our partnership with Shootout for Soldiers is another facet of our commitment to raise awareness around the sacrifices these brave men and women have made through the platform of sports."
Proceeds from the events will benefit The Wounded Warrior Project, Army Ranger Lead the Way Fund, Gary Sinise Foundation, The Semper Fi Foundation, and Team RWB. Registration is open online at www.ShootoutForSoldiers.com for people wishing to attend the games.
Shootout for Soldiers has raised more than $500,000 since its start in 2012 and is committed to using the sport of lacrosse to help provide financial, physical and emotional support to American soliders. To learn more, visit the website or follow @SFSLacrosse on Twitter.
