About two weeks ago, Steve Johnson asked a question everyone from Maryland probably has asked at one point in their life.
One of his followers speculated that the reliever and Baltimore native was headed to the Preakness, but no, the Seattle Mariners were playing the Cincinnati Reds that day. It was for something else.
On Tuesday, Mariners manager Scott Servais asked his players to dress up in something that represented where they're from. You can guess what Johnson wore.
(He's the guy on the right.)
The St. Paul's graduate was the first baseball player to be named to The Baltimore Sun's All-Metro team four times. His ERA as a Crusaders senior (1.27) is actually higher than his mark in 10 games this season with Seattle (0.79).
Johnson was taken in the 13th round of the 2005 draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers and made his first major league appearance in 2012 with the Orioles. He was 5-1 with a 4.25 ERA in 27 games before signing with the Texas Rangers and then the Mariners this past offseason.
And, for the record, he was all about Maryland Pride before people thought it was cool.
