Showalter, a 2-year-old bred and owned by Orioles owner Peter Angelos, won a 5 1/2-furlong race by a neck over Hennessy Fire at Laurel Park. It was Showalter's first pro race and he earned $29,640.

The horse is named for Orioles manager Buck Showalter.

It was just last September that a horse named Markakis (for former Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis) won at Laurel.

Hopefully that doesn't mean human Showalter is about to move to Atlanta.
