The big lead

The Orioles haven't conquered their offensive issues, but they have managed to overcome them when it matters the most. They have scored more than five runs in a game just twice since Aug. 25 and have scored more than four runs just seven times in their last 22 games. You would think it would take more than that to stay afloat in the wild-card derby, but the Orioles have parlayed just 11 runs into three straight victories to climb within just one game of the second AL wild-card spot. Of course, it only gets tougher from here, with eight of their remaining 11 games against the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays, while the Cleveland Indians have a cakewalk through the lower reaches of the AL Central the rest of the way.
