The bottom line

If the Orioles were hoping to make a resounding statement against the struggling teams they played last week, it didn't happen. They won the series against the Astros, but were outscored in the three games by a wide margin (17-10). They also struggled to keep the Mariners from circling the bases, allowing eight runs in each of the first two games of that series and losing a one-run decision in the rubber game Sunday. There are times when a 3-3 homestand represents an average performance, but not when you're playing two of the worst teams in baseball and you actually lose ground to the teams that are ahead of you in the standings. Really a disappointing weekend that will make fans wonder if the Orioles really have what it takes to hang in there down the stretch. Grade: D
