Opening Night at Ed Smith Stadium lacks critical ingredient

The Schmuck just stopped looking for M&Ms at Ed Smith Stadium. May have to write game story cold turkey. (Daily Record photo)

SARASOTA, Fla. -- The 2012 Grapefruit League opener at Ed Smith Stadium seemed to have it all.

The weather was terrific. The park looked great. Brady Anderson broke several radar guns with his sizzling ceremonial first pitch. Maybe, for a lot of people, that -- and nine innings of exhibition baseball -- would have been enough, but not me.

My pregame concession search revealed that there are no Peanut M&Ms for sale anywhere in the ballpark, which is going to make it difficult for me to get a sugar high in time to write my Web game story.

I mean, what do they expect me to do, eat Sour Patch Kids? Twizzlers? Starburst? Are you kidding me? I've been to Russia and found Peanut M&Ms without an interpreter, but can't find a single bag of the delicious little candy-and-chocolate-covered peanuts anywhere in this ballpark. I don't know who is responsible, but I'm going to see Director of Florida Operations Laura Williams first thing tomorrow for some answers.
