NFL just did it: New Nike uniforms aren't off the charts

The NFL is rolling out its new Nike uniforms today in Brooklyn, where at least one player from each NFL team is on hand to model the newly designed jerseys. Players already are tweeting about their "new age" on-field fashions, and the NFL is staging the reveal like it's a Broadway production.

If you believed the hype, the new NFL uniforms were going to be -- stylistically -- somewhere between the old Reebok configuration and the crazy Oregon Duck future shock collection. Through the miracle of Twitpics, just saw the Seattle Seahawks version, and it is definitely a very new look and the most dynamic change from the previous version, but not totally outrageous.

Ray Rice is modeling the Ravens uniform. The cut of the pants and the taper of the jerseys is different, but it still looks a lot like the Ravens uniform fans have grown to love in Baltimore. Fortunately, it is nowhere close to the cartoonish photoshops that were circulating on the Internet over the past few days.

Commissioner Roger Goodell clearly is sold.

"I love them,'' he said from the stage. "I love them first because it starts with the performance part of them. ... Talking to the players, they don't want to take them off. They love 'em."
