Gates open, game on at Oriole Park at Camden Yards

Oriole Park at Camden Yards is open Sunday following protests outside the ballpark Saturday evening. (Ron Fritz, Baltimore Sun)

Following a strange night in which Oriole Park had to be locked down temporarily because of violent protests outside, all seems calm at Camden Yards for Sunday's series finale between the Orioles and Boston Red Sox.

It's Little League Day at the ballpark and the kids were parading around the field 90 minutes before gametime.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter reflected on the night before during his pregame press briefing.

"There were a lot of strange things that you're not normally challenged with last night that challenge your concentration skills,'' Showalter said. "Let's see what kind of crowd we have."

The attendance on Saturday night was announced as 36,757, which is based on tickets sold. The actual crowd was estimated at between 24,000 and 26,000, which means that about 30 percent of ticketholders chose to stay away.

It appears to be business as usual today.
