Since 1965, Roy Albert has called Harford County home and he has no plans of leaving the area now that he is in his retirement years.
Albert worked at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in the Edgewood Chemical Biological Center and stays busy with the sciences even though he no longer works there. He’s a founding member and on the board of the Senior Science Society that was formed with help from Harford Community College.
“We go into elementary and middle schools and do STEM programs for the students,” Albert says of his work with the society. “It keeps me busy.”
And staying busy has been a large part of Albert’s retirement. As part of the Science Society, he is also the chairman of the scholarship committee that awards two $2500 scholarships to HCC students going into four-year schools. In addition, he sits on the finance committee of the Christ Our King Presbyterian Church in Bel Air and is a 48-year member of the Bush River Yacht Club.
Albert first discovered Carsins Run when he realized he no longer needed a house to himself (and got tired of cooking for himself every night). However, he didn’t want to stray far from the county he’s called home for so long.
“I saw a bunch of people I knew at a Carsins Run meeting and it’s close to everything that I do,” Albert said of the facility. “There’s a huge need for a community like Carsins Run in Harford County and it will be centrally located.”
As for what he’s anticipating most upon moving into Carsins Run, Albert’s answer was simple.
“I’m looking forward to having a nice, comfortable place where I’ll be meeting people daily,” he said. “And I’m looking forward to taking advantage of their dining options.”
