Illinois tax breaks for Office Depot stall

Office Depot, which recently merged with Illinois-based OfficeMax, was approved for tax breaks by the Illinois Senate that could sway the office-supply company toward a northern headquarters.

But the Illinois House adjourned Tuesday, stalling the bill, my colleague at the Chicago Tribune reported. (The Sun Sentinel is part of the Tribune Co. newspaper group.)

That could be good news for Office Depot's 1,700 Boca Raton employees. The company now has a dual headquarters in Boca Raton and Naperville, Ill.

Florida already has an economic incentives contract with Office Depot and local officials recently said they were in talks about potential additional incentives to retain the headquarters in Boca Raton.
