Benny Ricardo, who played in 90 games over a seven-year NFL career, will be the speaker at Saturday's quarterly Cougar Athletic Club breakfast.
Ricardo, who played at San Diego State, started his professional career with the Detroit Lions and played with Buffalo, New Orleans and Minnesota before finishing his career with the Chargers in 1984.
A kicker, he made 92-of-142 career field goal attempts and 171-of-180 PATs. He finished with 447 career points.
Ricardo now works as a standup comic and network sportscaster, having worked for ESPN, CBS, NBC and Fox.
Born in Paraguay, Ricardo is bilingual and does almost every major football and boxing event for Spanish TV and radio.
The breakfast at Cocina Del Charro restaurant on West Valley Parkway in Escondido is open to all current and former Escondido High athletes, coaches, faculty and staff and their guests. Cost is $12. Doors open at 8 a.m.
