Courtesy of Cathy Carey

Escondido artist Cathy Carey is opening her art studio and giving tours of her gardens April 30-May 1. Part of the proceeds are earmarked for San Diego-based nonprofit Shelter to Soldier. The nonprofit rescues shelter dogs and trains them as service dogs for post-9/11 veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury.

The open house is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days at 2048 Ridgecrest Place, Escondido. Suggested donation is $10, including refreshments and self-guided tours. Carey will match $5 for each donation. Carey will display and sell her paintings and hand-painted jewelry.
