Two West Side community areas each recorded three homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
In North Lawndale, a 27-year-old man was shot to death Tuesday in the 1800 block of South Kedzie Avenue, one day after an 18-year-old man was fatally shot in the 1300 block of South Kildare Avenue, police said. On Sept. 1, a 32-year-old woman was stabbed to death in the 2800 block of Roosevelt Road, officials said.
The West Side community area has recorded 10 homicides so far this year. North Lawndale logged 17 homicides last year, RedEye data shows.
In East Garfield Park, an 18-year-old man and a 34-year-old man were shot to death Saturday in the 2900 block of West Adams Street, police said. On Aug. 31, a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot in the 700 block of South St. Louis Avenue, officials said.
East Garfield Park has recorded 10 homicides so far this year. The community area logged 11 homicides last year, according to RedEye data.
Meanwhile, Austin saw two homicides in the last week, data shows. A 33-year-old man was shot to death Saturday in the 5400 block of West Division Street, police said. On Friday, a 3-year-old Austin boy was stabbed to death in the 5000 block of West Division Street, officials said.
Citywide, gunshot homicides also were recorded in the last week in Auburn Gresham, Chicago Lawn, Englewood, Greater Grand Crossing and Riverdale, data shows.
Also, a 19-year-old man was stabbed to death Saturday in the 1100 block of West Wrightwood Avenue in Lincoln Park, police said.
August ended last week with 36 homicides, down from 60 homicides in August last year, RedEye determined.
Thirteen homicides have been recorded so far this month. Police recorded 31 homicides in September last year, RedEye found.
