BCPS counselor named Counselor of the Year

Donna Murphy, school counseling chair at Eastern Technical High School in Essex, was recently named the 2015 Maryland High School Counselor of the Year. Murphy, who has been an employee of Baltimore County Public Schools for 17 years, also holds the previous title of Baltimore County Public Schools Counselor of the Year.

BCPS school counselors to be honored at White House ceremony

Wendy Carver, school counselor at Shady Spring Elementary School in Baltimore, and Jeremy Goldman, school counseling department chair at Pikesville High School in Baltimore, are among 16 national semifinalists who will be honored during a White House ceremony as part of the National School Counselor of the Year Program.

Both counselors will be recognized by the American School Counselor Association and the Offices of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama during the ceremony, which was held Jan. 30.

CCBC receives grant for training programs

The Kathy and Jerry Wood Foundation recently awarded $250,568 to the Community College of Baltimore County's division of Continuing Education and Economic Development.

The funds will be used to provide scholarship support to students preparing for middle-skill jobs in high-demand industries that require some advanced education but do not generally demand a four-year degree.
