I was told long ago that Chinese restaurants invented take-out. I am not sure if that is true or not, but I do know that they certainly do it well.

One of our local establishments that does Chinese takeout amazingly is in the Glyndon Square Shopping Center. I am of course taking about Kuki Chinese Restaurant. Kuki's offers both Chinese and Japanese cuisine. They offer free delivery for an order minimum of $10. Well they have good prices on everything — I assure you — and you're going to want to order more than just one item.

What Chinese meal wouldn't start with soup? Kuki makes a great wonton soup that comes in two sizes: small and large. The chicken broth they use for the base for their wonton soup, chicken corn soup, chicken noodle soup and chicken rice soup is fantastic and tastes just like a chicken broth your Grandma would have made. Other soups include egg drop, wonton egg drop, hot and sour, miso and seafood. Trust me — you will love their soups. Any time I am home sick and want soup and don't feel like cooking it myself, I call Kuki and have some chicken noodle or chicken rice soup delivered. It never fails to make me feel better.

Honestly, I could and often do make a meal of a couple of different appetizers. My top five favorites are crab rangoon, which is just yummy, shrimp toast — again delicious — shrimp tempura, teriyaki chicken on a stick and their egg rolls. Of course they also offer such tummy-pleasing appetizers as fried wonton, BBQ spare ribs, fried jumbo shrimp, fried Chinese donuts and seaweed salad.

I totally recommend their daily lunch specials. For just over $5, you can get one of 28 different dishes served to you with fried rice, egg roll, and your choice of wonton, egg drop, or hot and sour soup and a can of soda. How can you beat that? Some of their lunch specials include things like crispy eggplant, General Tso's chicken, moo goo gai pan and sweet and sour chicken. Lunch specials are served between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

If dinner is more to your liking, they do dinner boxes as well. For under $8, you get your entree with fried rice, egg roll, and your choice of wonton, egg drop, or hot and sour soup and a can of soda. Dinner boxes include chicken, beef or shrimp lo mein, black pepper chicken, Mongolian beef, hot and spicy chicken or beef, hot and spicy shrimp — and of course my personal favorite is shrimp in lobster sauce. Oh my, so so yummy.

They offer fried rice in varieties of vegetable, chicken, pork, beef, shrimp and their house special. All are yummy and delicious.

I really like their rice noodles and Singapore rice noodles, which are also available in vegetable, chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, and their house special. Rice noodles are crispy and snap when bitten into and I think they are wonderful.

Other items include chow mein, chop suey, sweet and sour chicken, pork and shrimp, egg foo young, moo shu which comes with four pancakes, and seafood dishes.

They even have a "Healthy Choice" section of the menu, which has options that include "Vegi-General Tso's chicken" and a vegetable delight.

They have an array of sushi dishes as well; since I am not a fan of sushi I cannot comment on them, but I am sure they are yummy too.

Kuki is located at 4888 Butler Road in Glyndon.
