Chamber to host Taste of the Town

The Reisterstown/Owings Mills/Glyndon Chamber of Commerce will host Taste of the Town from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 16. The event will be held at the Irvine Nature Center at 11201 Garrison Forest Road in Owings Mills. Participants will be able to sample food from local restaurants, enjoy the beer garden and mingle with celebrity judges while enjoying music from the 101.9 FM Friends & Neighbors van. Tickets are $35 each before Oct. 9 and $40 each after. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Community Crisis Center and the Reisterstown United Methodist Church Food Pantry. Cromwell Valley Park to hold events

Cromwell Valley Park will host Fall Family Campout from 5:30 p.m. Oct. 3 to 10 a.m. Oct. 4. The event is open to all ages. It will be held at the Willow Grove Farm Family Camp Site. Families should bring camping gear, but tents may be reserved in advance. Participants must bring their own dinner; breakfast will be provided. Rain date for the event is Oct. 4 through 5. The fee per family is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers.

Night Out with Nature will be held at Sherwood House from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 3. The subject of the evening's lecture will be "Native Bees of Maryland." The event will feature guest speaker Sam Droege of USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, who will discuss native bee populations of Maryland. Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy the lecture along with dessert, which will be provided. Cost is $10 for individuals and $15 for couples. Cromwell Valley Park will host Walnut Ink & Quills, an educational program which will explore the art of penmanship in colonial times, at the Willow Grove Nature Education Center from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 4. The event is open to ages 6 and older. Cost of attendance is $2 for members and $4 for nonmembers.

The Fall Harvest Festival will be held at Willow Grove Farm from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 11 and 12. The event will feature pony rides, music, apple press, hayrides, family games and crafts, food, puppet show and more. Reservations are not required, but a donation of $5 per car is suggested. CCBC to hold events

CCBC Dundalk at 7200 Sollers Point Road will host the Dundalk Chamber of Commerce Candidates' Night at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 7. The event will give individuals the opportunity to see candidates running for Baltimore County executive, state senator, state delegate and county council discuss local issues. The event will be held at the College Community Center in John E. Ravekes Theatre. CCBC Essex at 7201 Rossville Boulevard will present "Black Latina," a performance highlighting the experience of being a Black Latina in America and the difficulty associated with self-identification within two cultures. The event will be held at 12:30 p.m. in Room 137 of the Administration Building Oct. 8. It is free and open to the public.

Red Cross calls for blood donations

Several Baltimore County locations will be holding blood donations as part of the American Red Cross' commemoration of Liver Awareness Month in October. Blood donations could aid liver transplant patients who may require at least 30 pints of blood during surgery, according to a press release from the Red Cross.

The Red Cross is accepting donations from individuals of all blood types, especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative. All individuals who attempt to donate blood during October will be eligible to win a $5,000 Visa gift card, courtesy of Suburban Propane.
