Linwoods gives diners taste of luxury and 'modern sophistication'

Linwoods was established more than 20 years ago by Linwood and Ellen Dame, who, according to the restaurant's website, are still very involved in its day-to-day operations.

The restaurant has received excellent praise for its cuisine. It was named on Zagat's list of locations that serve the best burgers in 25 cities in 2013, and was recognized as one of Baltimore's best restaurants by Baltimore Magazine in 2012.

Linwoods offers a great balance of modern sophistication and Old World charm. I have found its contemporary elegance to be part of the allure of this amazing restaurant.

From the moment you step through the doorway, you know you are walking into elegance and luxury.

Its well-stocked bar is made of beautiful, polished wood, and has comfortable high chairs surrounding it. The beautiful stemware can be seen on the shelves behind the bar.

Whether you are having a business meeting, entertaining out-of-town guests, celebrating a birthday or anniversary, or simply going out for dinner, Linwoods is your place.

Linwoods' lunchtime fare features such tantalizing dishes as spring goat cheese and asparagus ravioli, a lobster burger, tilapia francaise, lobster tempura, spicy tuna tartare, fried chicken salad, grilled tenderloin on french bread, low country shrimp and grits, and more.

Dinner offerings include a pea salad, crab and lobster cake, crispy oysters, tempura vegetable sushi roll, grilled salmon, shrimp and grits, several varieties of pizza, roasted chicken, veal porterhouse and more. Linwoods offers a number of lovely salads, as well.

My favorite lunch served at Linwoods is the grilled hamburger, and my favorite dinner is broiled crab cakes. The burgers are always cooked to perfection — juicy and tasty. The crab cakes are always moist and delicious. What more could you want?

Linwoods' desserts are just as amazing as the rest of its menu.

Dessert fare includes a chocolate mousse bombe, a warm apple tart, white chocolate banana cream pie, raspberry sorbet, creme brulee, chocolate bread pudding and more.

For me, the worst part is trying to decide which one I want, as they all look so incredibly delicious.

The restaurant offers both on- and off-site catering, for which menus can be found at http://www.linwoods.com.

Linwoods is at 25 Crossroads Drive in Owings Mills. It is open for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Dinner hours are 5:30 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5:30 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 5 to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
