Enjoying good food and a welcoming atmosphere at Stone's Cove Kitbar

One Friday a few weeks ago I met my friend for a drink after work. She suggested Stone's Cove Kitbar. I had never been there but was instantly intrigued when we walked in the door. The restaurant/ bar is laid out so that you are seated around the kitchen and bar. The staff will chat with you while they are preparing your drinks and food. Honestly, it reminded me of being at my best friend's mother's house. Many a weekend we'd escape the college campus and make the 40 minute drive to his mom's place in southern New Jersey. Once there, we'd spend hours sitting around the island in her kitchen talking, cooking, drinking and loving the home feeling that the dorms just didn't offer.

Stone's Cove feels just like that: You are in the midst of everything going on, the food and drinks are being prepared within sight and the staff is chatting with you about what they are preparing, the weather, local events, and whatever else comes to their minds. Because of what they refer to as "communal table" you can talk with the folks you came with, the folks next to you, across from you, etc. It is a great environment to meet new friends.

Thinking of having a party? Stone's Cove can accommodate any size party and offers special menus for your guests too.

One of the things I found great about Stone's Cove is their "Do good things Sundays." From time to time Stone's Cove partners with area charities to host fundraising events for those charities. I have to tell you this is not something you see from many businesses these days. Kudos to them for this.

Stone's Cove also does "Local Mondays," which provides an opportunity for other companies in the hospitality industry or music businesses to present their products, music or other means of entertainment. Stove's Cove also does cooking classes, during which participants can learn how to prepare dishes and sample the finished products.

Stone's Cove offers some pretty interesting dishes. Some such meals include lobster cones, Chipotle lobster salad with guacamole and tomatoes in black sesame cones, which seriously look like the most decadent ice cream cones you can imagine. They have an ahi tuna sashimi, a strawberry and goat cheese salad, a prime burger, Atlantic swordfish, pumpkin cheesecake cones, tequila glazed tilapia and more.

Stone's Cove is a bar, and I'd be remiss if I didn't talk about some of the drinks they offer, like their cucumber basil martini, prickly pear margarita and spiced mango mojito. Trust me, no matter what you order, you will be delighted with it.

Stone's Cove is located at 10997 Owings Mills Boulevard in Owings Mills. They are open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
