I'm a breakfast on-the-go kind of person. It's rare that I get the chance to sit down and enjoy an omelet or pancakes. It's not that I don't enjoy these things — I do — but my schedule rarely permits the time needed to eat and appreciate such foods. That's why this week's eatery is right up my alley.
Sam's Bagel & Deli is just the place for me. They offer fresh-baked bagels in a variety of flavors, including salt bagels, which were my mom's favorite and are pretty hard to find. They offer poppy seed, egg, chocolate chip, blueberry, pumpernickel, jalapeno, marble, cinnamon raisin, sunflower, banana nut and more. Their bagels, which contain zero cholesterol, are baked on parchment, so no oils or fats are added. A few mornings ago, I was craving chocolate — I know, chocolate isn't exactly a breakfast food, but the craving sometimes happens. I ordered a toasted chocolate chip bagel with butter. It satisfied my craving and my hunger.
To top your bagel, they offer a wide range of spreads such as butter, plain cream cheese, honey cinnamon butter, peanut butter and jelly, salsa cream cheese, Nutella and many more. If you have never tried Nutella on a bagel, you are missing a big treat. The Nutella melts into the warm bagel and you have this wonderful hazelnut and chocolate spread sinking into warm, chewy bread. It's my definition of breakfast heaven.
They will do an open-face melt upon request with any of the above spreads for you, as well.
If you are looking for a good breakfast sandwich, how about one of their "Eggs-cetera" sandwiches? You can get a bagel with a cooked egg, a bagel with cheese and a cooked egg, or a bagel with egg, cheese and your choice of an offered meat. I love the ham, egg and cheese — it's one of my favorite breakfast on-the-go sandwiches.
Sam's Bagel offers omelets, as well, which you can get with egg whites at no additional charge. Their omelet varieties include cheese, veggie and cheese, mushroom and cheese, meat, bacon, ham or sausage, lox and onions, a Spanish omelet with salsa, and a Greek omelet with feta, spinach and olives.
The eatery offers a number of delicious sandwiches that include a Reuben, cheese steak, cheese melt, tuna melt, grilled chicken, a pizza bagel, a chicken melt, tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad, and many more.
In addition, they have added a half-pound homemade burger to the menu that is wonderful.
Of course, desserts are my favorites, and they offer cookies, cupcakes and black bottom cupcakes.
Sam's Bagel & Deli offers catering for events, as well. It's recommended that you call the eatery at 410-517-0700 to find out what daily specials are being offered before heading over. Weekend specials are also offered.
