County agencies recognized with achievement awards

The following four Baltimore County agencies were recently awarded 2015 Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties: the Department of Corrections for its Turning Pages Family Literacy Program; the Department of Recreation and Parks and Office of Information Technology — jointly — for the Walking Trails Web Application; the Department of Aging for its Be Mobile Drive Safe initiative; and the Department of Aging for the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Forum.

Glyndon shops to host Sip, Shop & Stroll Event

Glyndon merchants will host a Sip, Shop & Stroll event from 4 to 8 p.m. July 17. As part of the event, Black Eyed Susan, The Boxwood Collection, Tickled Pink Boutique, and Woolstock Knit & Sew will each offer a different wine sample of Boordy Vineyards Maryland Wines.

Samples will include Veritas Port, SCV, Riesling, and Shiraz, each of which will be paired with food items. A Boordy Vineyards representative will be on hand to discuss the different wines with guests. Guests can also enter to win a Glyndon Summer Survival Packet, which will include merchandise and gift cards from participating stores.

Stores participating in the event will also host special events. Black Eyed Susan, at 7 Railroad Ave., will offer a vendor trunk show featuring the owner and creator of Inspiring Flowers, who crafts jewelry, fine art and gifts that carry inspirational messages conveying joy, strength and motivation. Black Eyed Susan will also offer a 20 percent store-wide discount, as well as special product sampling. The Boxwood Collection, at 15 Railroad Ave., will offer a store-wide sale during which all merchandise will be offered at 15 to 75 percent discounts.

Raffles, giveaways, pantry sampling and wine tasting will be be offered. The featured vendor will be Jaime Gill, of Eikoh Design Studio, who will be presenting her glass, personalize-able giftware. Tickled Pink Boutique, at 4825 Butler Road, will offer a store-wide 20 percent off sale, with some exclusions. Woolstock Knit & Sew, at 4830 Butler Road, will offer inspirational embroidered merchandise and a selection of yarns and free patterns.

Owings Mills resident named to National Kidney Foundation board

Jordan Levine, of Owings Mills, has been elected to serve a three-year term on the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland's board of directors. Levine is the president of Myers Solomon Realty/Pelican Property Management, and the former president of the Shirlen Co., where he leased and managed retail and office space and headed acquisitions and development. He received a bachelor's degree in finance from Northeastern University and a master's degree in real estate from Johns Hopkins University-Carey Business School.
