Bloomberg endorses Frosh for attorney general

Maryland state Sen. Brian Frosh picked up the endorsement of outgoing New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg Wednesday in his 2014 campaign for attorney general.

An announcement of Bloomberg’s endorsement focused on the Montgomery County Democrat’s “tireless efforts to reduce gun violence” in Maryland. In his role as chairman of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee, Frosh sponsored the Firearms Safety Act, which Bloomberg hailed as “landmark” and said will make Maryland a leader on gun violence prevention.

“Reducing gun violence in America is a moral and social imperative,” said Bloomberg, who co-chair’s the Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition, in the statement. “No one has done more in Maryland than Brian Frosh to lead the fight against illegal guns and protect citizens from incidents of gun violence.”

In the statement, Frosh said he was “honored” to receive Bloomberg’s endorsement.

“His efforts to prevent gun violence have been an example for the nation, and we believe that Maryland’s new law will save thousands of lives,” Frosh said.
