Jarrett holds two events in Md.

Senior White House advisor Valerie Jarrett is holding two events in Maryland today -- one tied directly to President Barack Obama's campaign for reelection and the other a policy forum at Morgan State University focused on African Americans.

Jarrett, a longtime confidant of the Obamas, met with volunteers at a phonebank in Largo today, state Democrats said. She also spoke at a White House-organized policy forum that touched on education, the economy homeownership and Social Security.

Reliably blue Maryland will not play a signifcant role in the presidential election. Obama came to the state for a trio of fundraisers in June but neither he nor Republican Mitt Romney are likely to spend signficant time campaigning here. But volunteers here for both parties are making calls into battlground states such as Virginia, where Obama is campaigning today.
