Impallaria finesses rivals' endorsements

A mailer by  a Republican candidate for the nomination to run against Democratic U.S. Rep. C. A. Dutch Ruppersberger in the 2nd District gives a lesson in how to finesse the issue when a rival picks off the most desirable endorsements from party luminaries.

Del. Richard Impallaria, a Republican who represents Baltimore and Harford counties, sent a mailer to GOP voters touting himself as "a true conservative."

To bolster those credentials, he boasts: "Delegate Pat McDonough, Governor Bob Ehrlich, Congressman Andy Harris and [1994 and 1998 GOP gubernatorial nominee] Ellen Sauerbrey all support Rick Impallaria’s positions against in-state tuition for illegal immigrants and same sex marriages.”

Nothing false there. But Ehrlich, Harrris and Sauerbrey -- while they might agree with Impallaria on immigration and same-sex marriage -- have endorsed Sen. Nancy Jacobs, R-Harford, in the primary on Tuesday.
