Voter registration in Maryland topped 3.9 million as of Sept. 30, and could reach a record high by Tuesday’s registration deadline for the Nov. 6 election, elections board data show.

» 18 percent: The percent of voters who were registered as independent with the state Board of Elections, as of the end of September. That’s an 8 percent increase over September 2014.
» 3,975,309: The number of active registered voters in Maryland, as of Sept. 30 — just a couple thousand short of the state record of 3,977,637.
» 2-to-1: The advantage Democrats continue to hold over Republicans in Maryland.
