Baltimore Mayor Young says he’s supporting Joe Biden for president

Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young had just finished reading a group of elementary school students Dr. Seuss’ “Hop on Pop” when the kids pivoted to asking Baltimore’s top official some questions.

Are you rich? How did you become the mayor? And finally, will you be the president after Donald Trump?

No, Young answered Friday at Leith Walk Elementary/Middle School, before revealing he plans to support Joe Biden in the April 28 Democratic primary.

“He used to be the vice president of the United States,” Young told the students, "and I like him.”

Young, a Democrat, is also seeking support in the upcoming primary. He is running in a crowded, competitive field to win the nomination for a full, four-year term as mayor.
