Maryland delegate convicted of driving while impaired

Del. Richard K. Impallaria was convicted last week of driving while impaired in Worcester County Circuit Court, according to court records.

Impallaria, a Republican who represents parts of Baltimore and Harford counties, is scheduled for sentencing on March 10, according to online court records.

Neither Impallaria, nor his attorney, Frank Benvenuto of Berlin, could be reached for comment Monday afternoon.

Impallaria, who lives in Essex, is chairman of Harford County's House delegation and serves on the Economic Matters Committee. His subcommittee assignments include the alcoholic beverages subcommittee.

According to Ocean City Police, officers saw Impallaria get into and start his Ford Ranger pickup, which was illegally parked on 82nd Street in Ocean City on Aug. 18.

Officers saw him open a container of alcohol inside the truck police said. Impallaria failed field sobriety tests, according to police.

Impallaria was taken to a police station where he was found to have a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.07 percent. He was cited with driving while impaired by alcohol and released.

Impallaria was in Ocean City for the Maryland Association of Counties convention.

In October, Impallaria requested a jury trial, according to court records.

Impallaria pleaded not guilty but was found guilty on Jan. 4, according to court records.

The Maryland General Assembly opens its 2017 session on Wednesday.
