The ACLU of Maryland and the state's teachers' union are calling on Gov. Larry Hogan to transfer $5 million in state funding for private school vouchers to public schools.
The groups made the call Friday after the Republican governor's budget chief announced this week that Hogan would not spend $80 million that lawmakers set aside for various programs due to softening revenues.
Shareese Churchill, a Hogan spokeswoman, says the governor has provided record funding for public K-12 education in each of his two budgets.
