Frederick official says, Don't print my name without permission

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — A Frederick County elected official is threatening legal action to prevent a newspaper from publishing his name without his permission.

County Councilman Kirby Delauter made the threat in a Facebook post Saturday. He didn't respond Tuesday to a telephone call and email message from The Associated Press.

Delauter wrote on Facebook that Frederick News-Post reporter Bethany Rodgers would "be paying for an attorney" if she used his name again without his authorization.

Rodgers had written in a story published Saturday that Delauter shared another council member's concern about a lack of reserved parking spaces for all seven council members at the county government building.

News-Post Managing Editor Terry Headlee says Delauter's request is "stupid." Headlee says it's the newspaper's job to hold elected officials accountable for their words and actions.
