Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell announced Monday that Silver Spring-based Acentia will move its headquarters to Fairfax County where the company will invest $3.1 million and create 60 new jobs.
"Fairfax County gives us access to the highly-skilled technical staff and management consultants we need to continue to provide essential services to our customers," said Todd Stottlemyer, the CEO of Acentia in a statement.
McDonnell, a potential GOP vice-president, said in statement that he "warmly" welcomes the Maryland company to his state.
The loss is a blow to Gov. Martin O'Malley, who is going to great lengths to nurture and expand the high-tech industry in Maryland. Acentia is a IT consulting firm with a focus on federal government contracts.
Virginia and Maryland are locked in competition for jobs and companies. The Commonwealth has scored a number of recent victories, picking off 650 jobs jobs from Bechtel Power Corp in Frederick and winning the corporate headquarters of defense contractor Northrop Grumman after a fierce fight.
