WASHINGTON -- Gov. Martin O'Malley, who is considering a run for president in 2016, raised $581,550 into a pair of political accounts in the weeks leading up to and immediately following the midterm elections.
O'Malley, whose second term ends in January, traveled for Democratic congressional and gubernatorial candidates throughout the country, including in Iowa and New Hampshire. The reports show he made last-minute donations to Sens. Mark Warner of Virginia and Kay Hagan of North Carolina and to the Louisiana Democrat Party, where Sen. Mary Landrieu is trailing in polls ahead of this weekend's runoff election.
O'Malley will report having nearly $1 million on hand. The reports cover part of October through Nov. 24.
The governor is laying the groundwork for a potential campaign despite polls showing that Hillary Clinton, should she decide to run, would dominate the Democratic field.
