WASHINGTON -- Former governor Martin O'Malley will visit Iowa twice this spring as he considers a run for president in 2016, adding to an itinerary that has become more intense following his exit from Annapolis last month.
O'Malley will speak on March 20 at the Scott County Democratic Party's "Red, White and Blue Dinner" and will visit Des Moines in April for a Polk County Democrats' dinner. The travel was first reported by the Des Moines Register.
After a slowdown in travel following the midterm elections -- and the hand over of power in the state house to Republican Gov. Larry Hogan -- O'Malley is once more increasing his visibility in early primary states. O'Malley is also set to visit New Hampshire in March.
O'Malley is considering a run for president even as speculation grows that former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will seek the Democratic nomination. Polling shows Clinton would dominate the field if she runs, including in Iowa.
