John Delaney, the Potomac businessman seeking the Democratic nomination in Maryland's 6th Congressional District, is up with a new television spot Monday that focuses on lobbying – the main issue he has used to attack his opponent
Though the ad never mentions State Sen. Rob Garagiola by name, the target of the ad is clear. Garagiola spent several years working as a federal lobbyist.
"In Annapolis and Washington, it's an insider's game," the narrator says over video of a "revolving door" graphic. "Lobbyists become politicians, politicians become lobbyists. Democrat John Delaney isn't part of that mess."
The 30-second ad is Delaney's second and it is running mostly on cable television -- not in the pricey Washington broadcast market. The language is similar to the criticism Delaney's campaign has used against Garagiola in recent weeks.
The ad also highlights a recent Delaney policy proposal: Extending the waiting period for members of Congress to become lobbyists.
"It's time for Congress to focus less on lobbying and politics and more on jobs and the middle class," Delaney says at the end of the ad.
