WASHINGTON -- Glenn F. Ivey, the former Prince George's County state's attorney who is running for Congress, has hired a national campaign operative with an extensive background in Maryland politics, his campaign said Tuesday.
Jesse Hassinger, a Baltimore resident who worked on Doug Gansler's campaign for governor in 2014, will serve as Ivey's campaign manager. Hassinger also worked for Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney's reelection in New York.
Ivey is running in Maryland's 4th Congressional District, which is being left open by incumbent Rep. Donna F. Edwards' decision to run for Senate. The Prince George's County-based seat has captured significant interest and the Democratic field also includes former Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, Del. Joseline A. Peña-Melnyk, and Ingrid M. Turner, a former chair of the Prince George's County Council.
Ivey's campaign said it would use Ron Lester as a pollster, The Mellinger Group for fundraising and SKDKnickerbocker for media consulting.
"We were the first to announce candidacy, we are the first to form an organization dedicated to victory for the 4th Congressional District and we have brought together some of the greatest expertise and energy to guide this campaign to victory," Ivey said in a statement.
